Below you can find some photos of our pet rats. At first we had the “Pandemonium Trio” of sisters who arrived at the end of August 2011 aged around 4 months. They were rescued from an animal shop where they have been kept in terrible conditions, undernourished and full of parasites. They were pretty wild and not used to humans. Szufla (Shovel) is the biggest, white-browny with curling hair. She went through a surgery after a mammary tumor appeared on her overnight but was back to full health again in no time. Szatan (Satan) is the black one. She was the most shy, didn’t like humans at all, but now is the biggest cosset and loves to be petted. Szpadla (Spade) is the white-black one. She was pretty shy but now appears to be the alpha female.
And then, Sznurówka (Shoelace), the silvery one. We got her at the end of October, aged around 11 months. She was also rescued from an animal shop where she was used as a reproductive female. She was in terrible condition: undernourished, with a bad case of pneumonia and heart issues. She recovered but will be taking medicines until the end of her life. We started to call her a Terminator after she recovered from a uterine hemorrhage and subsequent sterilization. Photos are from joining her with the rest of the girls and a later period when she was properly “assimilated” 🙂
A pair of young males that lived with us temporarily before finding a permanent home elsewhere.
Szaszłyk (Shishkebab) was a healthy male lab rat. He liked people very much and was extremely friendly overall. After sterilization we joined him with our girls without much problems. That is, until he almost bitten Sznurówka to death one night. It happened after three weeks of peaceful coexistence and we have no idea why he did it. Sznurówka was bleeding profusely and we feared that this may be the end of her, but she recovered, again. She truly is a cyborg. Szaszłyk was given out to another person who might have better luck with him.
And finally some random photos of the four girls as they are today.
Sznurówka passed away on May 11th. 🙁
Our remembrance story: Elegy…
About a month ago we got a very young female for temporary home. She’s still here so let’s see her! We named her Fantom (Phantom). Shocking, I know! 😉
Szatan in an amazing position… and also two big cuddly males (neutered): Klocek (Block) and Półklocek (Half-block). Yeah. They are with us for a few months now but somehow I forgot to put some pictures up. Will make up for that soon.
This year wasn’t kind to us. We lost few of our best friends. See the update here.
